Know Your Rights
MIRA offers Know Your Rights presentations at respected and trusted host locations. The presentation begins with an immigration attorney describing the legal rights that all people have when in the United States. Examples include what to do if you are stopped on the street, in your home, or at your worksite by an immigration agent, or if you are arrested and charged with a crime.
Then, a social service provider discusses family emergency planning and how to prepare your family in case someone is arrested or detained due to their immigration status. Lastly, the presentation allows time for immigrant community members to ask specific questions. These presentations are not to be alarmist or generate fear but to help families prepare and be empowered to respond to law enforcement in the future.
