Call Senator Blunt – (202) 224-5721 and Senator McCaskill – (202) 224-6154 TODAY and tell them to support full funding of refugee assistance programs!
Congress has proposed massive budget cuts to the three agencies that serve refugees here in the US and abroad (The Migration and Refugee Assistance Account, Office of Refugee Resettlement, and International Disaster Assistance). While the population served by these agencies has grown and diversified, funding has remained stagnant for decades. Cutting funding would reduced life-saving services, impose a monumental burden on state and local governments as they struggle to fill the void, and abandon public-private partnerships with voluntary agencies, non-profits, and community organizations who assist our refugee communities.
Missouri becomes a new home for thousands of refugees every year, and our communities benefit from their success and contributions. A major cut like this would be a major blow to new refugees’ ability to become self-sufficent. Not only does this reduce the quality of life for refugees and their families, but it also ends up costing more in the long run.
Call your senators TODAY and tell them to support full funding of refugee assistance programs. Calling only takes a moment and makes a big difference. In your message, leave your name, where you are from, and why you are calling.
